Painting with Thread: Reimagining Hand Embroidery

This exhibition was scheduled to open at Schneider Haus National Historic Site on May 8, 2020. We’ve worked with Sarah Godfrey, our Artist-in-Residence, to create the Painting with Thread online exhibition for you to enjoy her art from the comfort of your home as our gallery is currently closed.

Schneider Haus Artist-in-Residence Sarah Godfrey explores embroidery as a marriage of illustration and fibre art. This exhibit demonstrates her love of nature, colour and whimsy in a collection of hoop art pieces, upcycled garments and paintings/drawings. Visitors will experience a large scale embroidery installation and will be able to contribute to a community art piece. There will even be pieces that can be touched, as embroidery is both highly visual and tactile as an artistic practice.

Sarah provides a window into the artist’s process through videos of her technique.  The tools and family history that have led Sarah to become immersed in the worlds of hand embroidery and illustration will be showcased.
